Whenever someone asks me why I work in Responsible AI & Ethics, my first answer is always that I have a small obsession with ethics (understatement), which is quickly followed by my second reason: the people.
I am, by nature, a curious person. I love looking for hidden connections between subjects, exploring multidisciplinary ideas, and searching for simple answers to some of life’s (and AI’s) most complex questions. So it should come as no surprise to hear that there is a special kind of joy for me in finding fellow humans inspired to tinker between the lines and outside the box.
Which is exactly what draws me to working in Responsible AI & Ethics, as it is in this field that I have found my people. This industry inherently demands a mind willing to explore new ways of thinking and inspired to engage in new ways of doing. Never have I met a space more filled with determination and passion than this one, and every day I am honored to be one of the many working to bring this all to life.
This is all to say that you, the members of the EI Network, are the reason this community exists. Selfishly, I wanted a space to bring together all of the interesting and brilliant minds I have been so lucky to meet through my work in AI Ethics. Selflessly, I wanted all those minds to be able to meet each other, because it is all together that we can make an undeniable dent in this digital world.
The EI Network is officially only a month old, and it has been astounding to watch our mighty little community steadily grow into something grand and beautiful in just a few short weeks. I know we still have a long way to go, but I am so excited to see how things unfold.
So here’s to you, one of the first members of the EI Network. Thank you for believing in a vision I have long hoped for, and a mission we are all striving to see become a reality.
Onwards,
Olivia
